Equality Information and Objectives

Our school aims to meet its obligations under the public sector equality duty by having due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate discrimination and other conduct that is prohibited by the Equality Act 2010
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it
  • Foster good relations across all characteristics – between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it

Our Equality Information and Objectives can be found here.

We use SCARF, a curriculum for PSHE including Relationships and Sex Education which is produced by Coram – a well-respected charity working to improve the lives and life-chances of the UK’s children and young people.

We also use No Outsiders, a scheme of work that uses age-appropriate story books to teach children about seven of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and that difference is a positive, not a negative.

No Outsiders has three core values:

  • respect for diversity through education in schools;
  • commitment to community cohesion through understanding and acceptance of difference;
  • promotion of dialogue to counter fear and hate in society.

We have chosen No Outsiders to supplement Relationship Education to help prepare our children for life in modern Britain. It is a fact that prejudice and discrimination exist, and children are going to experience it at some point. We need to prepare them, give them confidence to disagree when they hear prejudice, and show them that they are not alone.

No Outsiders reflects our Core Value of Respect; supports Diversity, Equality and Inclusion; and underpins the teaching of the British Values.

More information about our Personal Development Learning Curriculum can be found here.
